ROMANIAN MIG-21 LANCER FAREWELL, Bacau, 15.05.2023
With a special ceremony at the 95th Air Force Base in Bacău on May 15th the Romanian Air Force retired its MiG-21 Lancer fighter fleet. The last six aircraft arrived from two other bases where they was carried Air Policing mission until the last days. It was a foretold end after the Romanian Air Force announced in May 2022 a one-year extension and limited operations of the type following a number of incidents and accidents in the recent years.The first MiG-21s of the F-13 modification entered service in the Romanian Air Force in February 1962. The Lancer modification is a MiG-21MF upgraded with the help of Israel in the 1990s. The MF modification were originally produced aircraft in the 1970s.
