The annual live fire exercise of the combat aviation and air defense forces was planned for the period June 7-11. Su-25 aircraft and Mi-24 helicopters were based at the Balchik AFB. In the first days of the exercise they performed flights over the sea and training firings at a sea targets at the Shabla firing range. Bulgarian and Serbian MiG-29 fighters operated at the same range on parachute targets taking off and landing at Graf Ignatievo Air Base. On June 9, late in the evening in night conditions, while shooting at a parachute target, a Bulgarian MiG-29 with registration number 38 crashed. The pilot, Major Valentin Terziev, died. Rest in peace! The exercise was terminated immediately.
